Avoid career pitfalls
An individual who has been able to build a great career for himself/herself without the guidance of a mentor has at some point in time experienced career pitfalls through poor decisions. However, for an individual who is in a mentorship program as a mentee, he/she would have the opportunity of building a solid career without experiencing pitfalls. This is because they are being guided by people with so many years of experience and expertise. They understand how the industry works, decisions that would bring about career success as well as decisions that would bring about pitfalls or the death of one’s career.
A lot of people get confused about the next thing to do when they conclude a certain stage in their career. As a result of this, you find them trying out various options in hopes that one would click. However, an individual in a mentorship program cannot be found in that category of people. The reason being that he/she would have mapped out a very effective career plan with the help of his/her mentor. Therefore, the question of “what next?” wouldn’t be an issue.
Increased self confidence
When we find ourselves constantly making decisions with no visible progress, it can lead to a very severe case of depression because we would consider ourselves a failure. However, in a case where we find ourselves making decisions that seem to be bringing about progress in our lives, no matter how small, our confidence level goes up. Through an effective mentorship program, we gradually push ourselves towards success with the help of a mentor and this raises our confidence level about ourselves and our abilities.
The major aim of mentorship in the workplace is career progress as well as increased productivity in the workplace. Any one engaged in a mentorship program as a mentee is bound to see improvement in terms of career advancement and increased productivity in the workplace.
